Nsanje council hails e-tickets

Nsanje District Council local revenue enhancement committee chairperson Zuze Matewere has said the council is making progress on digitalisation of its operations, including electronic-ticketing system.

Speaking during the District Executive Committee Meeting on Saturday, he said so far they have registered at least 1 015 businesses around Nsanje Boma Market.

Said Matewere: “So far about 1 015 businesses have registered with digitalisation here on the west bank of the Shire River. The figure is from Nsanje Boma Main Market and Traditional Authority Ndamera.

“We are yet to register businesses from Chididi and markets in the east bank.”

He said despite the success in revenue registration and effective collection, they are facing challenges such as poor network, revenue collectors still learning how to operate the machines and vendors not being comfortable with the new charge of K500 per ticket.

Ndamera Area Development Committee chairperson Maliki Ganizani commended the council for the efficiency and improved system of collecting revenue.

He expressed optimism that all markets in the district will embrace the e-ticketing system.

A businessperson Whelse Makwenemba urged the council to put in place measures to prevent loss of revenue.

“The council should pay arrears owed to revenue collectors and increase their monthly package,” he said.

Nsanje district principal community development officer Patrick Sipuni said revenue collectors should be motivated for them to work efficiently.

In the last fiscal year, the council collected K124 million from a projected K133 million.
